Philosophy of Doctorate

Specific Admission Requirements

To be accepted as a Ph.D. candidate at Tourism Management, students are expected to have a master of Arts degree. If graduate student has no Tourism management degree at M.A or B.A level, he/she is expected to complete must courses of the related programme. In addition students should have at least 55 points in Academic Gradaute Education Exam. In addition, students should have at least 50 points in any Foreign Language ProficiencyExam.

Qualification Requirements

Thesis Seminar main intention of this course is to provide asistance to students for preparing their proposals and writing their thesis. Special Topics in Dissertation Each Ph.D student should take at least one Special Topics course offered by his/her advisor related with his/her special area of study. Dissertation Each Ph.D student is obliged to prepare a thesis proposal, write a dissertation thesis and defend his/her thesis in front of a thesis jury.

Recognition of Prior Learning

In order to be accepted as a Ph.D candidate, master os Science degree is accepted as crucial. Thus, candidates from another field should complete missing courses of the syllabus for Master's Programme, determined by Commission of the Department.

History

Founded in 1992, School of Tourism and Hospitality Management started to accept students in the 2001-2002 academic year. School of Tourism and Hospitality Management was renamed as a Faculty of Tourism in accordance with the decision of Council of Ministers (2014/6728) published in Official Journal on 26.08.2014. Our faculty offers one-year English preparatory programme for the prospective students. Our faculty consists of three undergraduate programmes: Department of Travel Management, Department of Hospitality Management, and Department of Food and Beverage Management. Our faculty also offers Online Distance Learning Programme in Hospitality Management which was opened in the 2012-2013 academic year; Master’s Degree Programme in Tourism Management (with Thesis) opened in the 2006-2007 academic year; Master’s Degree Programme in Tourism Management (Non-Thesis) opened in the 2013-2014 academic year; Doctorate Programme in Tourism Management opened in the 2014-2015 academic year. The students of our faculty have an opportunity to participate in National and International Student Exchange Programmes such as Erasmus Mobility Programme, Farabi Exchange Programme, and Mevlana Exchange Programme in order to broaden their horizons, develop personally and academically, and improve their linguistic ability. For all the programmes, it is compulsory to complete an industrial training period of 40 days before graduation. The students of our faculty also have an opportunity to spend their internship period in Germany.

Profile of the Programme

Tourism Management Ph.D programme provides opportunities to those who would like to continue their education in Tourism Management, after B.A and m.A in Tourism Management. Programme also offers opportunities to students to establish their own studies on Tourism depending upon advanced sociological theories. Ph.D programme also intends to provide students ability of conduucting a Tourism research independently and provide academic career at universities and higher education institutions.

Program Outcomes

1- It has comprehensive and systematic knowledge of concepts, theories, principles and phenomena in its field and in close disciplines.
2- It has knowledge of Internal and external environmental factors of the organizations in the field, relationships and interactions between departments of the organizations, politics and strategies of the organizations.
3- It has knowledge of legal regulations, occupational standards and practices in its field.
4- It performs planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and controlling functions related to the field.
5- It analyzes the service delivery processes related to the field, plans, implements, audits and restructures and improves the service processes when necessary.
6- Uses service delivery policies and strategies related to the field, performs, audits, develops and evaluates service processes in a satisfactory manner to the consumer, finds solutions to problems that affect the service process and develops and uses consumer satisfaction measurement tools.
7- Performs projects and research plans using appropriate research methods in relation to issues and issues related to the field, and presents the results in a clear and understandable way
8- Define, use and maintain the physical environment, tools and technologies related to the field.
9- It analyzes the information by using the techniques known in the field related to the problems related to the field, evaluates the different options with a critical approach in solving the problems and solves the unpredictable and complex problems.
10- Follows developments and applications related to the field and uses them in practice.
11- Work as team member, take responsibility and direct team.
12- Manage occupational and technic activities or projects with associates in the field in unexpected situation.
13- Communicate as written and verbal in a foreign language (“European Language Portfolio Global Scale”, Level B1)
14- Use computer software, IT and CT technologies (ECDL-A“European Computer Driving Licence”, Advanced Level)
15- Depend on ethical values with associates in the field and have social responsibility.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

At Ph.D programme, evaluation of the course depends upon instructor of the course. and content of the course. Term papers, presentations, projects are also others techniques of evaluation that are included at the end of the semester.

Graduation Requirements

To receive a Ph.D degree, students should complete 180-240ECTS credits, that will be composed of Specialized Thesis Study, Seminar and minimum 7 must course determined by the Tourism Management Department. Following the completion of the courses, students should be be successful at Proficiency Exam at Tourism Management Ph.D Programme. After Proficiency exam, students are expected to submit a thesis proposal. Students should write a dissertation that should be authentic and dissertation should be implication of a known theory to a new area or contribution to related literature with a new approach.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Ph.D graduates can have an academic career and work as faculty staff at universities. In addition, at some state institutions Tourism Management Ph.D Gradutes can be empolyed as experts.

Access to Further Studies

Tourism Management Ph.D. graduates can work as Instructors of Sociology at related Higher Education Institutions.
