Master’s Degree is given at Political Science and International Relations.

Specific Admission Requirements

To study at this programme candidates are required to; a)Have bachelor's degree. b) Have required grade at ALES exam c) Be successfull at the exam held by department.

Qualification Requirements

To obtain Master's degree in Political Science end International Relations; students are required to; a. Pass all the courses in a curriculum with at least the letter grade of CC, b. Achieve a weighted GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0. c. Prepare and defence thesis before a jury and have a successful note.

Recognition of Prior Learning

History

Institute of Social Sciences in Mugla University was established in 30.07.1992 and began educational activities in 1993. Currently sixteen Master's Degree Programme and ten Doctorate's Programme are held in the Institute. Within the Institute , Master's Degree at Political Science and International Relations is on operation since 2014-2015 education year.

Profile of the Programme

Program Outcomes

1- To have basic knowledge on local and international politics and the mechanism of world order , or deepen already gained knowledge.
2- To have theoretical and practical knowledge about studies on basic fields of political science, such as political institutions, operation of political systems, comperative politics.
3- To understand international relations on level of actors, institutions and systems, and to be able to analyse within the frame of theories on this field.
4- To systematically comprehend behaviors and strategies of international actors, and have ability to develop predictions on their acts on different analysing levels.
5- To understand historical transformation of international system and contemporary trends in international community.
6- To properly use academic knowledge, skills and abilities gained at university education in the intellectual and social-personal development phase.
7- To develop a professional vision, to determine the necessary knowledge and abilities in this direction and to acquire this knowledge and skills
8- To be able to take proper steps for producing solutions in professional life by having neutral and common sense approaches in national and international political, economic, social, cultural, legal and military matters.
9- Having the competence to develop and execute community-focused projects and activities with an understanding of political culture that emphasizes conscious citizenship and participation during education.
10- To be aware of global and international problems, to have ability to analyse these problems and to develop solution proposals, taking initiative.
11- To have an intellectual understanding with an ability of making wide and deep analysis in the field of Political Science and International Relations.
12- To have an understanding of life-long learning, to follow the developments in the related area, to use acquired knowledge and skills in political science education in professional life and efficiently transfer them to practice.
13- To comprehend scientific research methods such as literature review and field study, to acquire the capacity to use these methods independently.
14- To have ability to explain ideas about international issues and suggestions for solutions to problems to experts and non-experts by supporting quantitative and qualitative data
15- Learning at least one foreign language at the level of the European Language Permanent B2 in accordance with the aim of following the literature and developments in Political Science and International Relations and to express their thoughts in this area in writing and orally.
16- Acquiring the capacity to use diplomatic communication and correspondence language in its own language and foreign language
17- To have a computer skill , enough for literature search, information gathering and data analyse and enough for supporting expressions by production and use of visual and audio designs
18- To undersatand cultural differences, to develop critical approach in the frame of social justice, equality, ecology, conflict resolution, human rights sensitivity and to solve the problems they face.
19- To acquire the habit of internalizing and studying concepts related to scientific study and publication ethics in scientific systematic and ethical rules.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Each student has to register classes and continue at least 70% of courses to enter the final examination. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. Success grade is sum of 40% contribution of midterm exam (as the midterm grade could be considered marks which obtained from measuring tools as homework, laboratory exam, quizzes, etc.) and 60% contribution of final exam. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Obtaining at least 45 points in final exam is required. Students who have received a letter grade of (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) are considered successful from that course.

Graduation Requirements

To complete the program, students have to take all required lessons and some elective lessons to have a sum of total 120 ECTS, obtain the weighted average grade at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully defence a master's degree thesis.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who will graduate from Master's Degree of Political Science and International Relations, in return of their education, will be able to find a job whether in governmental or private institutions. They can take in charge not only in Foreing Ministery but also other international units in other ministries. On the other hand since political science is a bacis discipline which provides possibility to tend other disciplines like economy, finance, business, communication and media, law and public administration, it is an ideal base for students who generally interested in political and social issues but have not made a decision for their profession. Students who get this education, can make decision which profession they will tend by taking the lessons within the frame of the programme. Having the possibility of taking elective lessons offers to students needed education for specializing for these areas and makes easier to be informed about sectors which they will apply for a job.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who completed master’s degree can study doctorate program if they have required grade at ALES exam and required level of English knowledge.
