Dalaman Vocational School Programme of Civil Aviation and Ground Handling

Qualification Awarded

Civil Aviation Operator. Students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum plan are awarded the associate degree with the title of Civil Aviation Management Operator Intermediate Person.

Specific Admission Requirements

It is needed to succeed in the exam conducted by OSYM for the acceptance to the universities in Turkey.

Qualification Requirements

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 120 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and no FF, FD KK or TT grades.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the program administration. The students who have taken courses at another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant program will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

History

Civil Aviation Transport Management Program In 1999-2000 Academic Year started to meet the qualified human power of aviation sector which is growing rapidly in our country. With the implementation of the Human Resources Vocational Training Development Project (İKMEP) from the 2011-2012 academic year, the program, continues to train graduates equipped with the necessary aeronautical and operational knowledge to carry out operational operation of aircraft within the framework of national and international safety standards within the constraints of optimum cost and time in airports, airlines and handling businesses

Profile of the Programme

The program offers two years of training after high school education. A higher education transition examination conducted by the student selection and placement center (OSYM) with YGS-6 score type. Students have to take and pass each compulsory course. At the same time, students need to have a 2.00 average to graduate.

Program Outcomes

1- Describes aviation activities, identify aircrafts
2- Has knowledge about ground services, departments and equipments; be aware of ramp safety and apron rules and can apply requirements
3- Has knowledge about fuel cost management and loading policies of airlines
4- Able to find practical solutions to problems and have the right decision making skills in daily operational activities
5- Has knowledge about the relationship between aviation and meteorology and META, SPECI, TAF, AIRMET, SIGMET reports.
6- Has knowledge about basic concepts of aviation safety, factors affecting human performance; Gain awareness about human factors models and error management models.
7- Has information about ticketing package programs.
8- Has information about International aviation organizations, the regulations of the authorities, all concepts of passenger and travel.
9- They are aware of dangerous goods, cargo, packing, labeling and loading rules and can make the necessary applications
10- Has ability to use information, communication, technology and other technical vocational tools
11- Has the ability to communicate effectively in Turkish both in writing and speaking
12- Acquire historical, social, cultural and legal responsibilities; internalize ethics, equality and environmental values and have the application skills of them
13- Has ability to speak, understand and apply foreign languages that profession requires
14- Has the ability to apply presentation techniques.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Exams consist of midterms, final exams, excuse exams, repeat exams, exemption exams and one course exam. Midterms: there are midterm exams for the courses that exist in every term. 40% of a midterm exam is considered. Final exams: there are final exams to test academic success at the end of the term. 60% of a final exam is considered. Excuse exams: if a student has a valid excuse for the midterm or final exams, related board allow for excuse exams. For the excuse exams, the student must submit a petition, which explains the excuse, in 3 days to deanship/ management. Moreover, the excuse should be approved by related board. Repeat exams: students may take repeat exams for the courses, which are graded as FD or FF that they fail and which are graded as DD or DC that they pass, at the end of term. The point of a repeats exam substitutes for the final point of that course. The percentages of midterms and repeat exams are assessed in the same way as final exams. For the repeat exams, the final point is considered regardless of what was graded before. Exemption exams: exemption exams are set for the courses defined by the senate on the specified dates in the academic calendar. One course exams: they are for the students who failed on one course and will graduate in case of succeeding in that course. Moreover, the students may take one course exam to increase their own average score, although they succeed all of the courses in the program, for the reason that they cannot graduate due to grade point average is less than 2,00. To take one course exam for graduation, a petition should be given to the head of department. One can take this exam only once. For every course, students are graded at the end of the term as below by the lecturer of the course. Grade equivalent mid-term/final grade coefficient 90-100 AA 4 85-89 BA 3,5 80-84 BB 3 75-79 CB 2,5 70-74 CC 2 65-69 DC 1,5 60-64 DD 1 50-59 FD 0,5 49 and below FF 0 the assessments apart from the above, TT means failure because of absenteeism, mm means exemption for the course, gg success in course, KK means failure in the course, VV means abolished course. The students are graded as “TT” if they are absent in the courses and/or applied courses. The students, who succeed in a foreign language proficiency exam, are exempt from the required foreign courses (English, German, French) and graded as “mm”. The students who succeed in the preparatory foreign language program and internship graded as “gg”. The students who fail in the preparatory foreign language program and internship graded as “KK”. For the courses which are abolished from the education program are graded as “VV” with the proposal of the head of department and with the decision of the board.

Graduation Requirements

Students must succeed all of the courses exist in the program (equivalent to 120 ECTS) and grade point average must be minimum 2,00 over 4,00.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates can work in air agencies, airports and other aviation businesses in the private sector as well as with official institutions and organizations operating in the aviation sector.

Access to Further Studies

May apply to bachelor's programs in related fields of study provided that the student obtains sufficient score in the vertical transfer examination administered by the student selection Centre or may apply to bachelor's degree completion programs in related fields of study in distance education system.
