Milas Vocational School Programme of Tourism and Hotel Management

Qualification Awarded

When the minimum 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) of the program is provided within the framework of the program qualifications defined as a minimum credit, the Tourism and Hotel Management Associate Degree is obtained.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and all admission and registration requirements are determined by ÖSYM in accordance with the relevant legislation of YÖK. The documents required for the first registration are announced at http://www.oidb.mu.edu.tr/.

Qualification Requirements

In order to obtain a Associate's degree in Tourism and Hotel Management, students are required to complete all compulsory and elective courses (120 ECTS credits in total) and have a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The situation of students who have previously studied in another Higher Education Institution, -Education of Associate Degree and Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Regulation on Double Major, Minor and Sub-Credit Transfer Regulations, and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Associate Degree and Bachelor of Education Regulations can be recognized within the framework of the principles.

History

The Tourism and Hotel Management Program was established at the Milas Vocational School of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University in 1996 under the name Tourism and Hotel Management and in 1996-97 academic year, students started to purchase. In the Tourism and Hotel Management Program, which has been opened as an associate degree program, qualified trainees and managers are trained in all areas of tourism sector for more than 20 years.

Profile of the Programme

In this program, which is based on the fifth level occupational standards, it is aimed to train the students who have the knowledge, skills and equipment needed by the Tourism and Hotel Sector. Tourism and Hotel Management Program, after two years of theoretical and practical associate degree education is given after high school education. The program has Normal and Secondary Education, and each has a quota of 60 students. In addition to compulsory and elective courses, students are required to have 8 ECTS credits of Workplace Education or vocational internship. Compulsory internship period is 30 working days. Each student must enroll in the classes at the beginning of the semester (one week before the classes begin). Students must have at least 2.00 averages to graduate from the program.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Students are required to take at least one midterm and final exam for each course. Students are required to attend at least 70% of the theoretical courses and at least 80% of the practical courses in order to be able to take the final exam. Mid-term exam (mid-term grade, homework, laboratory exam, test scores, such as mini-test scores can be taken into consideration). The contribution rates of the examinations are announced to the students each year as the relevant Board decision. Generally, midterm exam is applied as 60% for the midterm exam, 40% for midterm, 25% for the practical courses, 25% for the final exam and 50% for the final exam. Relative system is used to evaluate the exams of our program. According to this, a student who gets AA, BA, BB, CB and CC letter grades from a course is considered successful. DC and DD are conditionally successful grades. In order to be considered successful in a course where the student has DC or DD grade (in order to prevent any obstacles to graduation), the general weighted grade point average must be at least 2.0.

Graduation Requirements

In order to complete the program successfully, it is required to be successful in a minimum of 120 ECTS (ECTS) course, to have a minimum CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and compulsory internship.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Students who graduate from Tourism and Hotel Management program are employed in hospitality establishments, tour operators and travel agencies, food and beverage companies and public institutions and organizations providing hospitality services.

Access to Further Studies

According to the related law, 5% of the students who graduate each year from associate degree programs have the right to transfer to undergraduate programs vertically. Students who successfully complete the Tourism and Hotel Management Program can study in the undergraduate programs provided that they take the current grade from the Vertical Transfer Exam.

Mode of Study

Full-time formal associate degree education is given in Tourism and Hotel Management Program.
