Qualification Awarded

When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are achieved, a Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics is obtained.

Specific Admission Requirements

The students who will apply to the Molecular Biology and Genetics Master Program, must be graduated from Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics under Faculty of Science, Department of Agriculture Protection, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology under Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Bioengineering and Genetics under Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Medicine. The decisions of the Institute of Science and Technology are valid for application conditions.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Graduation ECTS Total must be 120 and the thesis work must be defended against a selected jury.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Transfer: Students who have completed at least one semester in graduate programs at another EABD / EASD or another university within the relevant institute may be admitted through transfer to the graduate programs of the University. In order to transfer, the student must meet the requirements of the most recently announced student admission and success requirements of the relevant program and must have successfully completed all the courses he / she has attended in the program. Applications for horizontal transfers are made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. The acceptance and adjustment of the student to the program is determined by the EAB with the proposal of EABDB / EASDB. The transition between the master's program with and without thesis can be made by the student's application, EABDB / EASDB proposal and EYK decision in the third semester at the latest. The conditions and quotas regarding the transition between master's programs with and without thesis are determined by the Senate with the decision of the relevant EABDB / EASDB proposal, ANNEX. // Course submission: For graduate courses that students have taken and succeeded before, students are required to be exempted from one or more courses as a result of course submission and exemption exams, and consequently the application of the student in the course selection period, the relevant EABDB / EASDB proposal and EYK decision is determined by. Students who have taken courses from another university can be counted by the student's application, the relevant EABDB / EASDB proposal and the EAB decision. The details of the institution from which these courses are taken are stated and the transcript is written as it is and the success grade is entered.

History

Molecular Biology and Genetics Department Thesis Master's Program started in 2015-2016 Academic Year Spring Semester.

Profile of the Programme

Molecular Biology and Genetics is applied science for biological techniques and life systems and towards solutions of problems encountered in these fields, as a result of rapid advances in the field of microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell metabolism. Nowadays, this program is getting more and more important by entegrating with biology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, cell metabolism, and the science of genetics. Biological techniques and engineering principles of living systems and problems encountered in these areas are applied as a discipline of solutions. It is aimed to create the necessary infrastructure to follow the developments in all these fields and to train qualified students and researchers.

Program Outcomes

1- Ability to use sufficient background in science, bioengineering and related fields and theoretical and practical knowledge in these fields for molecular biology and genetic solutions
2- The ability to identify, formulate and solve the problems that will be encountered in the field, and to select and apply appropriate analytical methods and techniques for this purpose.
3- Analyze a biological system, components of a system or process
4- To have access to information, to be able to do resource research and to use the databases and other information sources
5- Ability to work effectively in both individual and created teams, self-confidence in taking responsibility
6- To be able to follow the developments in science and technology
7- Consciousness of responsibility and sharing
8- Awareness of the results of project execution, biotechnological and biosafety practices
9- To be aware of the issues of entrepreneurship and innovation and to have knowledge about the problems of the era
10- To be aware of the effects of biological applications on universal and social dimensions

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Students are required to participate in classes, practical applications and laboratory studies and their participation in these courses and practices is supervised by the responsible people. In addition to the examinations for laboratory applications for all compulsory courses and elective courses, there is one written midterm exam in each semester. Students must also take the final exam. Final exams are held at the appropriate places and hours announced by the department. For the examinations that the Faculty Board cannot reach for the reasons they see reasonable, students are taken to the make-up exams. Student assessment and evaluation methods are recommended for each course according to the results of mid-term exams, laboratory performance and reports and final exams. The final grade must be at least 70 points out of 100. The grade of the student's grade is 40% of the midterm grade and 60% of the final exam grade.

Graduation Requirements

Graduate program students are required to have at least seven elective courses, Seminar and Thesis Study courses provided that they receive a total of 120 ECTS credits. Students who fulfill the related requirements are awarded a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduated students can work in the relevant departments of universities as a lecturer or expert in order to carry out research and teaching activities; in public, research institutes, R & D laboratories, genetic diagnosis centers, hospital laboratories, space research laboratories, marine sciences research institutes, Turkish Standards Institute, Ministry of Health, Food, Agriculture and the Ministry of Livestock, Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), the customs control centers, the experimental animal research laboratory. Graduates can work also in the private sector in pharmaceutical, medical and biotechnology companies, medical laboratories and food control laboratories.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who successfully complete the Master's degree can enroll in doctoral education-learning programs provided that they have ALES and Foreign Language knowledge (TOEFL-IELTS-YDS, etc.).
