Qualification Awarded

Those who successfully complete the program earn a Master's degree in Cultural Heritage and Heritage Management.

Specific Admission Requirements

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Postgraduate Education Regulations are based on the Second Part. Accordingly, candidates for application and admission; Having a bachelor's degree from a domestic or foreign faculties or colleges whose equivalence is accepted by YÖK, When applying to the master's program, they must have received at least 55 points from ALES or at least an equivalent score from one of the exams accepted by the Interuniversity Board. Students are admitted to the master's programs with thesis by evaluating 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the science exam to be held in the field of science applied by the candidates, and 20% of the undergraduate grade point average. In the evaluation, they are accepted to master's programs within the quota by ranking them according to their success scores out of 100 full points.

Qualification Requirements

In order for the student to complete the qualifications in the master's program, the third part of the Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Graduate Education Regulations is taken as a basis. Accordingly, the student; They have to fulfill the program qualifications at a minimum level, successfully complete all of the courses (C/S) that are registered in the program (for a total of 120 ECTS), pass the thesis study courses they took during the thesis period, and successfully defend their thesis.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Candidates who will apply to the program can apply to the master's program, provided that they have an equivalent undergraduate diploma from domestic or foreign faculties or colleges whose equivalence is accepted by YÖK. Apart from this, the 8th article of the Postgraduate Education Regulation is taken as a basis in matters related to lateral transfer.

History

Cultural Heritage and Heritage Site Management has started postgraduate education as of the 2021-2022 academic year.

Profile of the Programme

As understood from the cultural heritage management practices, it is understood that the components that make up the cultural heritage cannot be maintained and protected only with legal sanctions and public cooperation. The protection and use of cultural heritage is possible with the support of individuals and communities. The fact that our country has a cultural heritage as old as the history of humanity has a special place in terms of the harmony and unity of the elements that make up the cultural heritage with the natural environment. Rapid urbanization, tourism and large public investments cause the destruction of our cultural heritage assets that have not been adequately documented, whose value has not been shared with the public and cannot be carried into the future. It is necessary to document all the components that make up the cultural heritage, and to transfer them to future generations permanently with projects that include the masses of the people, taking into account the balance of protection and use. The aim of the program is to meet the needs across the country; Preparing the necessary projects for the implementation, identifying the current and possible wearing factors and deteriorations that threaten the movable and immovable cultural assets, works of art, historical building materials and ornaments, determining the appropriate methods for their documentation, protection and repair (conservation and restoration) It is the training of professional ethic staff equipped with interdisciplinary scientific and technical knowledge. In addition to this, the activities (scientific research and application projects, publication, meeting, consultancy services, etc.) needed throughout the country in order to ensure the dissemination of national and international principles and basic approaches in the field of protection of cultural assets, and education and training together with the above-mentioned activities, to protect our assets, transfer them to future generations and contribute to the sustainability of our cultural heritage.

Program Outcomes

1- Based on undergraduate level qualifications in the field, they have advanced knowledge and understanding that provides the necessary foundation for original studies in the fields of archaeology, restoration, architecture, engineering, environmental protection, law, economics, economics and administrative sciences.
2- Interprets the knowledge gained in the field at the level of expertise, in interdisciplinary and supradisciplinary contexts, and solves the problems encountered by taking responsibility in individual or team studies by using the most appropriate research methods and techniques.
3- He is aware of the lifelong learning and applications of his profession and develops innovative and original interpretations based on scientific facts, using technology and traditional methods when necessary, using limited or incomplete data.
4- It shares openly and systematically the findings and conclusions reached in a study, and the knowledge and rationale underlying them, with expert and non-expert groups in national and international environments in or outside the field.
5- To observe scientific principles, standards and professional ethical values by having advanced knowledge and understanding of national and international legal and organizational regulations in the protection of cultural heritage.
6- Communicates verbally and in writing by using a foreign language at least at the B2 General Level of the European Language Portfolio.
7- Social, economic, cultural, physical changes and transformations of tangible and intangible cultural heritage; determines the causes of destruction and deterioration, develops a strategy, makes implementation plans and evaluates the results within the framework of quality processes.
8- Being aware of its social and ethical responsibilities for rural and urban conservation, it evaluates conservation techniques with its stakeholders and society, and ensures continuity in the protection of cultural heritage and memory.
9- Have sufficient awareness of the universality of social rights, social justice, quality and cultural values, environmental protection, occupational health and safety.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Student are evaluated and graded according to 11th article of the Regulation on Graduate Education at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. The examination is performed as mid-term, final and make-up exams. In order for the student to take the final exam he/she must have attended at least 70% of the theoretical courses. The examimation is performed in written, oral, written-applied and oral-applied methods. For each course, at least one midterm exam is held in the related semester. In order to be successful in a course, the final grade must be at least CC.

Graduation Requirements

The normal duration of the program is 2 years. In order to graduate from the master program, student are required to complete at least seven courses, one seminar an done thesis study. The course on specialized field, seminar and the thesis study are courses with credit and are graded as successful (GG) or unsuccessful (KK). The student who succeed chooses the thesis advisor. Afterwards, the student writes his/her thesis in accordance with the “Thesis Writing Guide” and submits at least one printed and one electronical copy at least one month before the date of the thesis defense. The student who successfully passed the thesis defense is entitled to graduate.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Cultural Heritage and Heritage Management have the opportunity to be employed in both the public and private sectors. It is planned that the students who successfully complete the program will be able to continue their academic careers, as well as have the competence to work in government institutions and think-tanks/analysis organizations related to the regions/countries and heritage sites in question. Our graduates, archeology, ethnography and history museums affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; provincial culture and tourism directorates; directorates of the cultural and natural property protection board; Conservation applied inspection bureaus can be appointed to the staff of architectural bureaus related to restoration and related units of municipalities.

Access to Further Studies

Students who have completed their master's education can study for a doctorate within the framework of the Higher Education Council's Postgraduate Education Regulations and Universities' Postgraduate Education and Training Regulations.
