Qualification Awarded

Ph.D. program consists of at least 240 ECTS credits including at least seven courses, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis. Students who successfully complete the thesis work are entitled to take the title of Philosophiae doctor.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates applying with a master's degree to PhD programs have a master's degree in a science approved by EABDK and approved by the EYK; and at least 55 standard points from ALES, or one of the exams accepted by the Interuniversity Board. They must have at least 55 points from YDS or YÖKDİL, and have obtained at least equivalent scores from national and international foreign language examinations which are accepted as validity by the Interuniversity Board. Success score; 50% of the ALES score is calculated by adding 20% of the undergraduate / graduate grade point average and 30% of the written exam grade. The conversion table of YÖK is used to determine the equivalents of GNOs in the system. The achievement score is determined by the Senate not to be less than 65 for doctoral candidates.

For students who are admitted with a bachelor's degree, a total of 42 credits, 14 courses, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a dissertation proposal and a thesis study, a total of at least 300 ECTS credits.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Acceptance and evaluation of previous learning and courses taken are evaluated by the relevant commissions.

History

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Fisheries Faculty was established by Law No. 3837 in July 3, 1992. First student intake began in the academic year 2004-2005 with the enrollment of 41 students and then, first graduation ceremony was in 2008. Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Fisheries Faculty, consists of three main departments including Marine and Inland Water Sciences, Aquaculture, Fishing and Fish Processing Technology; however, students only got “Fisheries Engineering” diploma after graduation. Today, aquaculture department goes on its missions with 4 proffessor, 3 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 3 research assistants and 8 administrative staff.

Profile of the Programme

To provide training in aquaculture in accordance with universal standards; conducting scientific research and publications at international level; The aim of this course is to educate high engineers who have sufficient level of laboratory and theoretical knowledge to contribute to technology and knowledge production, which are competent in research and development required by national research centers, national industry, agricultural research institutes and universities.

Program Outcomes

1- Haves graduate level information about the national and/or international legislation applied in aquaculture field, knows legislation authorities and stakeholders, recognize which stakeholders get in touch with while having official correspondence and uses the legislation properly, follows the legislation changes, knows how to apply legislations in essential situations.
2- Knows the aquaculture (hatchery, fattening, biotechnological application, live fish transport, new species) in graduate level, distinguish the differentiate points of these cycles on the basis of fish species, prepare suitable feed rations and knows feed technologies, monitors and interprets the growth performances of the produced species.
3- Haves sufficient planning knowledge to establish an enterprise in aquaculture field and can make projects related to aquaculture, and take an active role in the implementation of these projects.
4- Knows and applies organization, production planning, human resources management and control strategies in the field of aquaculture. Can make a problem analysis in decision making in management, and can make fast and accurate decisions.
5- Knows project cycle management and logical framework approach. Analyzes the current situation of the region in terms of fisheries. Can create forward looking projection by identifying opportunities and threats. Can analyze problems based on cause and effect relationship and identify root problems.
6- Can use computers and the internet at graduate level, follow professional publications, use fisheries terminology, apply statistics at graduate level, conduct research and experiments on their subject, give seminars, write and discuss reports and articles.
7- Know the precautions about fish health and prophylaxis and can apply in the field. Haves a knowledge about the diagnostic and therapeutic issues of fisheries diseases.
8- Haves theoretical knowledge about diving and sailing a small boat at graduate level that required in the aquaculture industry.
9- Knows human and moral values, aware about professional ethical rules, knows and observes the rights of employees, takes initiative, has self-confidence.
10- Haves advanced knowledge about the current status of the aquaculture industry. Can carry out qualified studies in the fields needed by the sector. Can perform a study that requires expertise in the field.
11- Innovative thinking ability has been formed. Gained process improvement and discovery ability.
12- Can make a market analysis about the aquaculture sector and plans the production process according to market needs.
13- Haves knowledge about the environmental impacts of aquaculture enterprises. Explains the relationship of the industry with the environment. Haves sufficient knowledge about sustainable aquaculture at postgraduate level.
14- Haves knowledge about the management of basins that aquaculture activities conducted. Haves the knowledge that can form the basis of good governance between the aquaculture sector and the stakeholder production sectors that use the same water resources.
15- Acts in accordance with social, scientific, cultural values and scientific ethical rules during the collection, evaluation, interpretation and publication of data related to the field.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Students are obliged to attend all theory and practice courses, laboratory studies and exams in education programs.Attendance status is monitored and recorded by the instructor. Each semester, at least one midterm and final exam are given. Students who do not take the exam for a valid reason have the right to take the make-up exam if they are accepted by the Graduate School Administrative Board. Year-end exams are held at the places and dates announced by the department. Student assessment methods can take different forms for each course. Evaluation is generally based on open or closed exams, reports, homework, small written exams, seminar presentations or oral examinations, laboratory or workshop performance. The instructor may also take into account the attendance status of the student in addition to his / her performance and exams.Courses which do not require mid-term and final exams are determined by the department. In such cases, the semester grade is given according to the student's semester performance. Exams; mid-term, final exam and make-up exams. In order for the student to take the final exam; at least 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of laboratories and applications.In order for the student to take the final exam; at least 70% of theoretical courses and at least 80% of laboratory and applications.Exams; written, oral, written-applied and oral-applied. For each course, at least one midterm exam is held in the related semester. The mid-term and final grade grades are decided by EYK at the beginning of each semester with the recommendation of the instructors who have the doctoral degree determined by the Senate. Students can take the proficiency exam twice a year in the fall and spring semesters. The student who is accepted with a master's degree is required to take the proficiency exam until the end of the seventh semester. The proficiency exams are organized and conducted by the doctoral qualification committee of the EABDB proposal and assigned by the Board of Higher Education (EYK) for the duration of the assignment. Doctorate proficiency exam is conducted in two sections, written and oral. Questions and questions asked in oral and written exams are taken into account. Written exam success can be evaluated with grade.

Graduation Requirements

Ph.D. program consists of at least 240 ECTS credits including at least seven courses, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis. Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.50 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme .
