Qualification Awarded

Special Education Teacher Bachelor's Degree

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or an equivalent school diploma, and must have received the prescribed scores in the categories determined in the examinations conducted by the Center for Assessment, Selection and Placement.

Qualification Requirements

In Special Education Teaching undergraduate program, it is necessary to take 6 area elective courses from each learning area and 7 area elective courses from the area of ??specialization. Students who successfully complete all of the courses available in the program (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) and who achieve a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 are eligible to graduate.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Students studying at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University may be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. In case the course content is approved by the relevant school / faculty / institute board of directors and applied within due time, students will be exempted from courses.

History

In our faculty, the Special Education Department was officially opened as of 2011, and this year, it will be accepting students for the first time. Special education teaching is a teaching that appeals to more than one group including mind, vision, hearing impairment, autism, learning disability and special talent.

Profile of the Programme

The aim of the Special Education Department is to train teachers who are sensitive to the needs of individuals with disabilities and special needs, and who can put theoretical knowledge into practice in the light of contemporary educational practices and scientific approaches.

Program Outcomes

1- Comprehends the concepts related to the field and the relations between concepts based on the competencies gained in secondary education.
2- She/he has the knowledge of teaching programs, teaching strategies, methods and techniques, and measurement and evaluation related to her field
3- Has knowledge of students' development, learning characteristics and difficulties.
4- Conceptualizes events and facts related to the field, examines them with scientific methods and techniques, interprets and evaluates data.
5- Students' developmental characteristics, individual differences; Applies the most appropriate teaching strategies, methods and techniques taking into account the characteristics and achievements of the subject area.
6- Develops materials suitable for the subject area and the needs of the student.
7- Evaluates students' achievements using different methods.
8- Takes responsibility in individual and group work and fulfills the task effectively.
9- Takes responsibility individually and as a team member to solve unforeseen and complex problems encountered in practice.
10- It develops a positive attitude towards lifelong learning.
11- It plans and implements professional projects and activities for the social environment in which it lives with social responsibility awareness.
12- Informs the relevant people and institutions on the issues related to her/his field.
13- Behaves in accordance with democracy, human rights, social, scientific and professional ethical values.
14- It establishes personal and institutional interaction in order to create and maintain a safe school environment.
15- It is aware of the national and universal sensitivities expressed in the National Education Basic Law.
16- Acts in accordance with the laws, regulations and legislation regarding duties, rights and responsibilities as an individual and in her/his field.
17- Have the scientific basis theoretical and applied knowledge in the field.
18- It works in cooperation and coordination with families, colleagues, experts from different disciplines and community representatives to meet the needs of the student.
19- Makes adaptations in curricula in general and special education according to the needs and performance of the student.
20- She/he uses computer software as well as information and communication technologies at the level required by her field, both with her special needs students and in her/his own personal and professional development.

Exam Regulations & Assesment & Grading

Exams consist of midterm, final and make-up exams. Exams; It can be written, oral, written-applied and oral-applied. At least one midterm exam is held for each course in the relevant semester. The method of assessment and evaluation applied for each course is defined in detail in the "Course Information Form" in accordance with the Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulation of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University.

Graduation Requirements

In order to successfully complete the program, it is necessary to pass all of the courses available in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS) and to obtain a grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

After our students graduate, they attend classes as classroom teachers in schools and private tutoring institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.

Access to Further Studies

Those who successfully complete their undergraduate education can start the master's program, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam.
